sat out all last offseason, and skipped six games, hoping to get a new contract from the . It never materialized, the situation turned sour, and the team traded him to Seattle in October.

Joining the “Now What?” podcast with former teammate , Brown detailed the ugly split from the Texans.

“It was bigger than football for me at that point,” Brown said, via the Houston Chronicle. “I was disrespected. I can’t walk in that building and only play . You have to interact with these people at some point. I’m not one of those people that can fake my way through that [stuff]. I can’t. It was too far gone, and the departure was needed. It had nothing to do with me wanting to get out of Houston or leave my teammates. Not at all.”

Brown wanted to re-do his contract, which was set to expire in 2019. The Texans stood firm, saying that they don’t restructure contracts with two years remaining. The standoff led to animosity.

“I wanted to finish my career there, and I wanted security doing that,” Brown said. “I made it known right at the end of the season. There was no conversation throughout the whole offseason about it, which is why I didn’t show up to anything. There was a conversation around minicamp where they said we can’t do deals with two years left, but they’ve done it before. Basically they were like, ‘We’ve done it before but you’re not worth that.’ So, I’m like, ‘OK, well, I’m not coming to anything then.'”

Brown pointed to the team’s ability to cut him for nothing as a reason it made sense to skip offseason workouts.

The move comes as a slight surprise, but Strong played just 20 snaps and wasn’t targeted against the Bengals last Thursday night. He also missed the opener while serving a one-game suspension for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

Strong was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona, in February 2016 on a marijuana possession charge.

On the field, the 2015 third-rounder played in 19 games for the Texans, hauling in 28 catches for 292 yards and three scores.

Strong struggled with his conditioning and never emerged as a game-changer, but his release does nothing to help a thin, banged-up cast of weapons surrounding rookie passer .

The Texans are getting plenty of use out of the treadmill, with fellow star J.J. Watt jersey commemorating a rehab milestone of his own with a video of him running in it in mid-January. Watson’s jog is the most important for the organization, though, with Houston’s hopes riding on his status.

That much was clear when Watson suffered the knee injury in practice, days after he’d engaged in a thrilling shootout with Russell Wilson and the . From there, the Texans fell off a cliff, winning just one of their final nine cheap jerseys games. Rarely is the difference made by one player so startlingly evident.

Any recovery is important, but Watson’s is paramount because of his style of play, and the assets Houston gave up (a 2018 first-round pick, which is the No. 4 selection) to draft him. In newsroom discussions, our own Jeremy Bergman offered the comparison of Watson to , who was scintillating as a rookie before suffering a similar knee injury. Griffin was never the same from there, in part because of a recovery/rehab process that was covered relentlessly and expedited to keep the momentum generated by the quarterback’s play going.

One hopes Watson fares better in his first season after the injury. Those first steps in that high-tech treadmill were important ones.
