Duane Brown felt ‘disrespected’ by Houston Texans

Duane Brown sat out all last offseason, and skipped six games, hoping to get a new contract from the Houston Texans. It never materialized, the situation turned sour, and the team traded him to Seattle in October.

Joining the “Now What?” podcast with former teammate Arian Foster, Brown detailed the ugly split from the Texans.

“It was bigger than football for me at that point,” Brown said, via the Houston Chronicle. “I was disrespected. I can’t walk in that building and only play football jerseys for sale. You have to interact with these people at some point. I’m not one of those people that can fake my way through that [stuff]. I can’t. It was too far gone, and the departure was needed. It had nothing to do with me wanting to get out of Houston or leave my teammates. Not at all.”

Brown wanted to re-do his contract, which was set to expire in 2019. The Texans stood firm, saying that they don’t restructure contracts with two years remaining. The standoff led to animosity.

“I wanted to finish my career there, and I wanted security doing that,” Brown said. “I made it known right at the end of the season. There was no conversation throughout the whole offseason about it, which is why I didn’t show up to anything. There was a conversation around minicamp where they said we can’t do deals with two years left, but they’ve done it before. Basically they were like, ‘We’ve done it before but you’re not worth that.’ So, I’m like, ‘OK, well, I’m not coming to anything then.'”

Brown pointed to the team’s ability to cut him for nothing as a reason it made sense to skip offseason workouts.

The move comes as a slight surprise, but Strong played just 20 snaps and wasn’t targeted against the Bengals last Thursday night. He also missed the opener while serving a one-game suspension for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

Strong was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona, in February 2016 on a marijuana possession charge.

On the field, the 2015 third-rounder played in 19 games for the Texans, hauling in 28 catches for 292 yards and three scores.

Strong struggled with his conditioning and never emerged as a game-changer, but his release does nothing to help a thin, banged-up cast of weapons surrounding rookie passer Deshaun Watson.

The Texans are getting plenty of use out of the treadmill, with fellow star J.J. Watt jersey commemorating a rehab milestone of his own with a video of him running in it in mid-January. Watson’s jog is the most important for the organization, though, with Houston’s hopes riding on his status.

That much was clear when Watson suffered the knee injury in practice, days after he’d engaged in a thrilling shootout with Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. From there, the Texans fell off a cliff, winning just one of their final nine cheap jerseys games. Rarely is the difference made by one player so startlingly evident.

Any recovery is important, but Watson’s is paramount because of his style of play, and the assets Houston gave up (a 2018 first-round pick, which is the No. 4 selection) to draft him. In newsroom discussions, our own Jeremy Bergman offered the comparison of Watson to Robert Griffin III, who was scintillating as a rookie before suffering a similar knee injury. Griffin was never the same from there, in part because of a recovery/rehab process that was covered relentlessly and expedited to keep the momentum generated by the quarterback’s play going.

One hopes Watson fares better in his first season after the injury. Those first steps in that high-tech treadmill were important ones.

Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins returned an interception for a touchdown on Thanksgiving, but ended the night in a walking boot to protect an ankle injury that may have made Thursday’s game his last hurrah nfl jersey usa for 2017.

He said it: “We are world champions, men. Just look around. This is what you guys have done. This is Denver Broncos White Womens Game Jerseys what you have accomplished. We said before, an individual can make a difference, but a team makes a miracle. You did it. You did it against a fine football team. When you’re asked, you’re complimentary, but at the same time … we are going to party.” — Pederson

Such a Jekyll-and-Hyde approach might be OK against teams such as the Tampa Bay Dallas Cowboys Navy Blue Navy Nike Kids Elite Jerseys Buccaneers and New York Jets, but when the competition rises — such as next Sunday night against the visiting Atlanta Falcons — what will happen?

Allen only had one sack, but he had a number of strong rushes to help set up others — or prevent the quarterback from escaping. Those two, plus the outside linebackers, enabled Washington to often send just four rushers and focus on coverage.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Six games into the New England Patriots’ season, a big part of their DNA is both troubling Jacksonville Jaguars White Kids Game Jerseys and admirable.

Season grade: Near perfection. They were the best team in football just about wire to wire, differences in nike nfl jerseys overcame the losses of star quarterback Carson Wentz, future Hall of Fame left tackle Jason Peters, linebacker Jordan Hicks, running back Darren Sproles and special teams ace Chris Maragos, and charged through the postseason. They capped their run with a win over Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots dynasty. Could it get any better?

Season in review: The expectations were pretty low heading into the year, but coach Doug Pederson saw something special brewing. He made a bold statement in the summer by saying this group had as much, if not more, talent than the championship Green Bay Packers team in the mid-’90s. The disclaimer was that everything still needed to jell. Boy, did it ever. Wentz proved a star in the making, and new additions like Alshon Jeffery, LeGarrette Blount, Jay Ajayi elite jersey and Tim Jernigan blended seamlessly into the team’s culture. It proved to be a loaded, cohesive roster that rolled to 13 wins in the regular season, two wins in the NFC playoffs as the No. 1 seed and a Super Bowl victory — the first in franchise history.

Two steps ahead: When Memphis head coach Tommy West hired Fichtner in 2001, he wanted an offense that personalized the spread offense to the team’s strengths, which eventually included running the ball with DeAngelo Williams.

Key offseason questionWhat to do with Foles: Do you hold on to Nick Foles elite jersey, the Super Bowl MVP, or deal him if a quality offer comes down the pike? If nothing else, this season demonstrated the importance of having a good No. 2, so the Eagles aren’t likely going to be in a rush to trade Foles, who comes with a cap hit of close to $8 million next season. Plus, there’s some uncertainty about when Wentz will be fully recovered from his torn ACL. But if they’re blown away by an offer, they’ll have to consider it.

Biggest draft need: Executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman and VP of player personnel Joe Douglas have done a very good job of assembling a top-level roster with few holes. This is a team that believes in putting heavy resources into the offensive and defensive lines and could use depth at offensive tackle, in particular. I’d expect them to target linebacker as well.Free-agency targets: They have to make a couple of in-house decisions first, with linebacker Nigel Bradham and Sproles. Could they look for a speedy receiver to push Torrey Smith and work opposite Jeffery?Future looks bright: The Eagles arrived ahead of schedule and won a Super Bowl with their backup QB.

Wentz is just 25 and has the potential to be a top-five player in this league. Pederson was a question mark heading into the season, but now it’s hard to look at him as anything but a major asset. Most of the supporting cast is locked in contractually for the foreseeable future, making a sustained run of success likely.

J.J. Watt to play in Houston Texans’ preseason opener

J.J. Watt will return to the football field for the first time in nearly 11 months next Wednesday, and he won’t be on the sidelines.

Houston Texans Jersey

The Texans defensive end will play in Houston’s first preseason game against the Panthers, coach Bill O’Brien told reporters Saturday. It will be Watt’s first game action since Week 3 of 2016, and you can watch him take the field live on NFL Network at 7:30 p.m. ET Wednesday.

Watt sat out most of 2016 with a back injury, but has been practicing without serious incident in Texans camp so far. His return and the emergence of a healthy Jadeveon Clowney have Texans coaches and fans salivating over the front seven’s potential.

O’Brien confirmed his stance during an interview with reporters in Houston on Tuesday when he was asked if he could see himself playing both Savage and Watson in the same game but in different situations.

“Sure. I mean, I envision that, I can see that, but that’s not the approach that we’re taking. Tom’s the starter. Tom’s playing well this camp. Tom has really had a good camp. He’s only thrown three incompletions in two games,” O’Brien said. “He’s really got good command of our offense, and like I’ve said, Deshaun is a very, very good, young player who has a great future in this league.

cheap Houston Texans Jersey

“I mean, let’s put the cards on the table. That’s what it is. But Tom has been here for four years. The way that we want to play, the style that we need to play relative to getting guys lined up, relative to cadence, relative to protection points and route reads and putting guys in the right spot, Tom’s ahead of Deshaun on that.”

I had a similar takeaway after watching Savage lead a touchdown drive against the Patriots this past weekend. His summer has been impressive for several reasons, but seeing his progression while watching him handle the ultimate inevitability of his long-term situation has really been something. Having just about the world’s biggest distraction for a quarterback dropped into his lap — the team drafting competition in the first round — Savage parlayed the pressure into a good summer.

He is a better quarterback than the one who plodded to a 1-1 record in two relief appearances last year. In two preseason games thus far, Savage is 17 of 20 for 167 yards and a touchdown.

Jaelen Strong of the Houston Texans has been suspended without pay for the first game of the 2017 regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

Strong will be eligible to return to the Texans’ active roster on Monday, September 11 following the team’s September 10 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Strong is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Strong’s appeal of the suspension was denied.

Strong was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona, in February 2016 on a marijuana possession charge.

In two seasons with the Texans the second-round pick has played in 18 games (including three starts), compiling 28 receptions for 292 yards and three touchdowns.

According to Texans coaches, Strong enjoyed a solid training camp and preseason. In two preseason games, he’s earned three receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown in limited snaps.

The suspension further diminishes the Texans’ receiving corps for the opening game. Houston wideout Will Fuller is expected to miss the first month of the season with a broken collarbone. Braxton Miller also has been dealing with an ankle injury, and star receiver DeAndre Hopkins has missed time with a hand ailment.

Texans ‘certainly’ will work on DeAndre Hopkins deal

Texans owner Bob McNair said the obvious when talking about receiver DeAndre Hopkins on Wednesday.

“Certainly we’re going to work on (an extension) and see if we can get that taken care of,” McNair said. “It’s certainly our intention.”

Hopkins, 24, has one year and $7.915 million left on his rookie deal. He’s currently set to hit the market in 2018.

While teams are opting to wait longer these days, the Texans’ quarterback situation could put them in a precarious position. Should Brock Osweiler or some other replacement level fill-in continue to pilot the Texans’ offense, Hopkins might not want to remain in Houston for much longer. They could do the ugly song and dance with the franchise tag for a year just to lose him eventually anyway.

The star wideout dropped from 192 targets in 2015 to 151 in 2016. He also dropped from 111 catches to 78, and 11 touchdowns to four.

Hopkins, who also spoke to reporters on Wednesday elsewhere, had his own ideas on how to improve the offense.

“Who wouldn’t want Adrian Peterson?” Hopkins told the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Wednesday. Along with the Buccaneers and Giants, the Texans were on Peterson’s potential destination wish list if he doesn’t stay with Minnesota.

“We’ve got (running back) Lamar Miller jersey here, but I don’t think Lamar Miller would be opposed to having Adrian Peterson helping out in the backfield,” Hopkins said.

Simon, who was ranked No. 64 in NFL top 101 available players, has signed a three-year, $14 million contract with the Colts that includes $6 million guaranteed, a source informed of the deal told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The deal includes incentives that pushes the potential max value of the contract to $17 million.

Simon tallied 51 tackles and 3.5 sacks for the Texans last season en route to his Indy payday.

In addition, Indy added punter Jeff Locke to replace the recently-retired Pat McAfee. Locke was the punter in Minnesota for the past four seasons.

The Colts also announced the release of cornerback Patrick Robinson on Friday. Robinson played in seven games in his lone season in Indy. The veteran cornerback will enter free agency amidst one of the deepest secondary draft classes in recent memory.

NFL Network analyst Charley Casserly, formerly general manager of the Washington Redskins, believes the potential first-round draft choice will a better pro than the Houston Texans‘ DeAndre Hopkins.

“Watching the two of them coming out of college, off tape, to me, Williams has better separation, the ability to beat a defender one-on-one when he has to, inside and outside on cuts,” Casserly said on NFL Network’s Path to the Draft.

That’s saying a lot.

Hopkins is the most accomplished among a deep group of NFL receivers from Clemson that includes Sammy Watkins and Martavis Bryant. Williams was a big draw Thursday at Clemson’s pro day, where he ran a pair of 40-yard dashes clocked in the 4.5’s. It was a solid time for a player of Williams’ size (6-foot-4, 220 pounds) and strength. NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock called Williams “a first-round pick all day long,” at the pro day workout Thursday.

While Casserly prefers Williams over Hopkins, and projects him to be selected No. 10 overall by the Buffalo Bills, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have some scouting concerns about him.

“A little disappointing to me was his 10 (yard split) time, only 1.65. Laquon Treadwell of the Minnesota Vikings had the same time, that’s scary,” Casserly said. “He hasn’t done shuttle drills. Why not? Maybe he doesn’t think he does them well, and his change of direction may not be quite what we think it is. (I) love him on tape, though.”

If he proves to be a better receiver than Hopkins in the NFL, whichever team picks him up in the draft will be thrilled.

Del Rio: Connor Cook will start for Raiders vs. Texans

Connor Cook will make his first career start in the Oakland Raiders’ Wild Card round matchup with the Houston Texans.

On a conference call with Houston media, coach Jack Del Rio confirmed that the third-string quarterback will be under center with Derek Carr recovering from a fractured fibula and Matt McGloin battling an injury to his trapezius muscle.

“We trust him to go out there and lead us,” Del Rio said, via the Houston Chronicle.

The fourth-round rookie will join Minnesota’s Joe Webb (2012) and Denver’s Gus Frerotte (2000) as the only quarterbacks this century to start their first game of the season in the playoffs, per NFL Research.

Cook completed 14 of 21 passes for 150 yards, a touchdown and an interception in just over two quarters of action at Denver in the regular-season finale. While the former Michigan State star showed a live arm and made a couple of “wow” throws in relief of McGloin, he also fumbled twice and nearly added a second interception.

“He’s tall, he can see the field. He’s just confident out there,” wide receiver Amari Cooper said of Cook’s debut. “He was just ripping it, making throws, stepping up in the pocket. I think he did a really good job.”

Despite Cooper’s optimism, the Texans’ league-leading total defense is looking forward to harassing the inexperienced quarterback.

“I hope we blitz him all game,” defensive end Jadeveon Clowney said Tuesday, via Houston’s KHOU. “I don’t know, that’s up to the coaches. We just have to put a lot of pressure on him, make him throw some bad balls, force some turnovers and try to get our offense in good field position.”

Forced to turn back to a beleaguered Brock Osweiler with Tom Savage nursing a concussion, the Texans are dealing with offensive woes of their own.

New England came out sluggish in the first half. The Patriots committed two turnovers that accounted for 10 Texans points to keep the game close early. New England ran just five plays in the first quarter due to the turnovers and a Dion Lewis kick return touchdown. Tom Brady was battered in the first half, and New England couldn’t run the ball (19 yards on the ground through two quarters). Despite the poor first half, Brady and the Pats’ defense took control late. Brady punctured the Texans’ secondary with big plays, and the defense took advantage of a punchless Houston offense to earn the comfortable win despite not playing their best football.

Dion Lewis hadn’t scored a touchdown since October 29, 2015. Saturday night the running back earned a hat trick. Lewis became the first player in postseason history to have a receiving, rushing and kick return touchdown in a single game. The jitterbug flashed his angle-busting speed on a first quarter touchdown reception. He then earned the Patriots’ first-ever postseason kick return touchdown on a 98-yard blast. Lewis added a 1-yard TD plunge to put the game away. The Patriots took advantage of Texans linebacker Benardrick McKinney in coverage several times. After Lewis clowned McKinney early, James White blazed by the linebacker for a TD.

Credit the Texans’ defensive front for harassing Brady all game. Houston controlled the line of scrimmage most of the game. Jadeveon Clowney and Whitney Mercilus consistently disrupted the Pats’ offense with penetration from all over the field. Romeo Crennel moved his game-wreckers around to create mismatches — particularly taking advantage of center David Andrews. Moving Mercilus and Clowney inside on third downs was particularly effective. Getting in Brady’s face up the gut discombobulated the Pats’ offense multiple times. Mercilus’ versatility was a big story. He got pressure off the edge, up the middle and even helped break up a pass down field on Lewis. Clowney and Mercilus combined for five QB hits, a sack and several other pressures.

Nike Texans #99 J.J. Watt Camo USMC Men's Stitched NFL New Elite JerseyThanks in large part to the Texans’ pressure, Brady was off the mark for long stretches the game. TB12 particularly struggled with passes over the middle, tossing two interceptions (one bounced off the hands of Michael Floyd, the other Brady didn’t see McKinney over the middle). Brady, however, picked apart Texans cornerbacks on the edges, tossing some sublime dimes outside the numbers. Brady dropped passes of 48 yards, 45 yards and several other 20-plus yarders to Chris Hogan and Julian Edelman. With no run game to speak of, Brady carried the offense, tossing 38 passes on the night. This wasn’t a vintage Brady night, however, as he completed just 18 passes for 287 yards, two TDs and two INTs for a 68.6 passer rating.

Initially, the Texans announced that Savage cleared concussion protocol and he even returned to the game on the last play of the first half to take a knee. However, he was reevaluated at halftime and the team ruled him out with a concussion.

Osweiler took over at quarterback immediately after Savage’s injury in the first half. He was benched in favor of Savage two weeks ago due to the expensive free-agent acquisition’s constant struggles.

Following the loss, Texans head coach Bill O’Brien was mum on who will be under center next week in the AFC wild-card playoff game.

“I think it’s going to be an evaluation,” O’Brien said per the Houston Chronicle. “We will talk about it as a staff.”

Bill O’Brien: Texans will ‘evaluate everything’ at QB

Moving forward with Brock Osweiler at quarterback in 2017 would not be an inspiring choice from head coach Bill O’Brien and the team’s personnel staff. That may be why O’Brien sidestepped questions about the future of his signal caller on clean out day Monday.

Houston Texans Jersey Cheap

He was asked specifically if Houston would be looking to draft a quarterback this spring.

“We’re so far from answering that question,” O’Brien told reporters. “Right now, we sit down and evaluate our team and everything we do …it’s not even a question that I can begin to answer.”

What about an open competition between Osweiler and the man he was benched for late in 2016, Tom Savage?

“We’re going to evaluate everything. We’re going to do the best we can to field a good, competitive team, a better team, a more consistent team than we did this year.”

Wholesale Houston Texans Jersey

By now, everyone is familiar with Houston’s conundrum. A defense capable of beating the Patriots in the divisional round of the playoffs, dragged down by an offense that is far behind but loaded with playmakers. While Osweiler played well at times on Saturday and fell victim to some receiver drops, he did not play well enough this season to fend off Savage for 16 games. His style and mechanics do not seem to lend itself to what O’Brien is building.

The obvious answer is the veteran market. Tony Romo could be the best quarterback available this offseason depending on what Dallas decides to do. On Sunday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that their No. 1 priority this offseason was dealing the Pro Bowler now that Dak Prescott is entrenched as the team’s starter.

J. J. Watt Jersey Cheap

This is not to say that Cook (18-of-45 passing, 161 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions) played poorly given the circumstances. The one fourth-quarter interception was a tipped ball. Yes, it was high to Amari Cooper, but this is your third-string quarterback. Cook got into a second-half rhythm and momentarily put some pressure on the Texans. For a moment in the fourth quarter, the game rekindled some of its theater. What more can one ask for given the circumstances?

O’Brien named Osweiler the starter for next week, which is exactly what he should have done. “He got into a good rhythm, he was able to get off to a good start on a lot of drives,” O’Brien told reporters after the game. “That’s always a good sign that he gets into a rhythm and he feels it.” O’Brien handled the play-calling beautifully and allowed Osweiler to start small and develop a feel for the game with his tight ends, whom he targeted heavily. It was obvious that, throughout the third and fourth quarter, he developed more confidence in his abilities the more he went to DeAndre Hopkins. While Houston has been waiting to see this consistently and for four straight quarters each week, they’ll take the 14-of-25 passing for 168-yard performance to get them into the next round against either the Patriots or Chiefs.

DeAndre Hopkins Jersey Authentic

The problem with double-teaming Clowney, which is what the Raiders resorted to for most of the game, is that your right tackle ends up on an island. Not many of us pegged the Whitney Mercilus-Austin Howard matchup to define a large portion of this game, but it did. The 26-year-old Mercilus finished with a pair of sacks and, at times, actually forced Oakland to double team him instead of Clowney. The game of protection chess had to be maddening for Cook, who also had some headset problems during the game. Don’t let your kids grow up to be quarterbacks (or offensive line coaches, or coordinators).

On the other hand, Houston remains a team that still hasn’t shown all it can be during the O’Brien era. Imagine what happens if outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney delivers on the lofty expectations that hovered around him when he was the first overall pick in the 2014 draft. The Texans already saw fellow outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus produce a breakout season last year (with 12 sacks), and inside linebacker Brian Cushing is still a force when healthy. If Watt isn’t hindered by an offseason groin surgery — and the secondary remains solid — there’s no reason why this unit shouldn’t dominate again.

Watt already is making it clear that it’s not enough for this team to just get into the playoffs. It has to be ready to make some serious noise.

Jadeveon Clowney Elite Jersey

Nike Texans #15 Will Fuller V Black Men's Stitched NFL Elite Pro Line Gold Collection Jersey“I don’t really think we’ve done what we’ve wanted to do in a while,” Watt said. “Obviously, we’ve gone through everything — different quarterbacks, all kinds of adversity. You don’t want to be a 9-7 organization. We want to have high expectations. We want to be great. But you have to go out there and do it.”

The Texans have learned that lesson in each of O’Brien’s first two years, both of which — as Watt noted — ended with 9-7 records. They weren’t good enough to make the postseason in 2014 and they were too error-prone to deal with the Kansas City Chiefs in a 30-0 loss in last season’s wild-card round. Former Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer threw four interceptions, lost a fumble and completed just 15 of his 34 passes in that defeat, which led to Osweiler’s arrival. The feeling at the time was that all Houston needed was a better offense to improve the organization’s chances of competing for a championship.

The Texans now have made those moves and there is ample excitement around the area. What they shouldn’t do, however, is forget their identity as they chart their course for success this coming fall. As much as this franchise should benefit from an assortment of new skill players on offense, there’s still that old adage in football, something about defense winning championships. It worked well for Denver last season — and the Texans would be wise to remember it this coming fall.

Ravens’ Ricky Wagner set to blow the lid off RT market

It’s not a good year to need offensive tackles. Many teams need offensive tackles.

The toxic potion of scarcity will allow the few solid veterans heading to the open market to hit the jackpot.

Wholesale Jerseys

When it comes to the right tackle market it appears Baltimore Ravens’ Ricky Wagner is this offseason’s prize.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo said Tuesday on Good Morning Football  Jerseys that Wagner is “going to blow the lid off the right tackle market.”

Swiping out Lane Johnson’s outlier contract — he was paid as a future left tackle — the top of the right tackle market is Green Bay Packers’ Bryan Bulaga at $6.75 million per year. Last offseason the Chiefs signed Mitchell Schwartz jersey to a five-year, $33 million contract, which averages $6.6 million per season.

Cheap NFL Jerseys

According to Garafolo, Wagner will end up signing for more than $8 million per season.

The former fifth-round pick played exceedingly well in 2016, particularly as a pass blocker on the right side, after struggling in 2015. Since taking over the starting gig in his second season, the 27-year-old has missed just two games. Pro Football Focus ranked Wagner its 18th overall tackle (both left and right side) in 2016.

With a gaggle of teams in need of tackles and a plethora of salary-cap space, Wagner’s reps will have a boatload of leverage during the NFL’s free agency negotiating window — opening Tuesday at noon ET.

Garafolo mentioned the Vikings are one team interested in Wagner’s services. Minnesota general manager Rick Spielman knows he must upgrade a debilitating offensive line, and could make a splash adding Wagner.

Nike Texans #15 Will Fuller V Navy Blue-Red Men's Stitched NFL Elite Fadeaway Fashion Jersey“I’m not enamored with any of the quarterbacks in this draft, that’s No. 1,” said Casserly, the former GM of the Houston Texans and Washington Redskins. “No. 2, Garappolo today is better than any quarterback in this draft. Now, he’s had three years of experience. You look at him coming out (of college), the guy had a quick release, he’s smart, he knows where to go with the ball. The guy is accurate, and he can make some plays on the move. You see all (those things of wholesale jerseys) in the NFL. His deep-ball accuracy, you’d like that (to be) a little bit better.”

Garoppolo indeed has been in the NFL for three seasons, but his playing experience doesn’t amount to much. He’s made two career starts, both of them to begin the 2016 season while Tom Brady served a four-game suspension. Garoppolo led the Patriots to a 2-0 start before suffering an injury, completing 42 of 59 passes for 496 yards, four TDs and no interceptions in wins over the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins.

That’s not much of a body of work after three pro seasons, but then again, it’s more than what a rookie would bring.

“Garoppolo to me is not a special guy who will just raise the level of everybody around him. Like for example, an (Andrew) Luck. That’s a rare guy,” Casserly said. “But yet I do think all the characteristics I talked about, the ability to be accurate, get the ball out on time, I think he’ll do a great job there.”

There is certainly a building consensus that this isn’t the draft to find a franchise quarterback. NFL Network draft expert Mike Mayock said last week that he would be “scared to death” to take one in the first 10 picks of the draft, and Kizer — at No. 18 — is the highest-ranked QB on analyst Daniel Jeremiah’s list of the draft’s top 50 prospects.

If NFL clubs see things the same way, the trade market for Garoppolo could be all the stronger for it.

Buffalo Bills GM: ‘Rex is salivating’ over Shaq Lawson

By way of the direct replacement theory, the Buffalo Bills were beyond thrilled to swap departed and disgruntled edge rusher Mario Williams for their first-round draft pick, Shaq Lawson.

“Very few times that you can go into a draft and have a really big need and that guy there standing out like a sore thumb is the guy you want and the guy that fills that need,” general manager Doug Whaley said, via The Buffalo News. “We’re extremely excited to have Shaq Lawson and cheap authentic NFL hats. We never thought he’d drop to us at 19.”

For coach Rex Ryan, a Clemson superfan whose son plays for the Tigers, it was thrilling for multiple reasons. Mostly, it was another first-round pick Ryan got to spend on defense.

“Rex is salivating with this guy,” Whaley told the team’s official site.

Earlier in the night, Whaley added: “He walks in as a Day One starter, opposite Jerry Hughes jersey. He can set the edge from the outside, he can rush speed-to-power, and that gives us two nice rushers off the edge. And then you’ve got the push in the middle with our defensive tackles.”

The pick, however, continues an odd trend for Ryan, who has not been the head coach of a team that has used a first-round pick (or top second-round pick if No. 1 is unavailable) on an offensive player since 2009. That was the year the New York Jets drafted Mark Sanchez jersey.

In the ensuing years, Ryan oversaw the drafting of cornerback Kyle Wilson, defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson jersey, pass rusher Quinton Coples, cornerback Dee Milliner, defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, safety Calvin Pryor and finally with the Bills, cornerback Ronald Darby.

The Bills released cornerback Leodis McKelvin, the team announced Friday. The move will save the Bills $3.9 million and bring the team roughly $13 million under the cap, per ESPN’s Mike Rodak.

Nike Bills Men's Ugly Sweater_1McKelvin makes for an interesting addition to the free-agency pool. The selection of available cornerbacks is shallow, meaning the 30-year-old defender is bound to draw interest.

McKelvin, 30, suffered through an injury-ravaged season, playing nine games after spending half the year on the team’s non-football injury list with an ankle injury he suffered in 2014 due to wholesale jerseys.

As the 11th overall pick of the 2008 draft, McKelvin started 60 games over eight seasons in Buffalo, with some of his finest work coming in 2013.

“Tyrod’s our starter. Tyrod’s the guy we’re going into the season with,” Whaley said, via the Buffalo News. “… He’s not the type who’s insecure like (about his status).”

Whaley added the Bills haven’t received any trade offers regarding Taylor.

Much of this offseason in Buffalo has been spent haggling over Taylor’s future with the franchise. The quarterback’s agent has been vocal about getting his client a new long-term deal that would compensate Taylor at the level of a starting quarterback. Taylor is set to make $1 million on cheap NFL and NBA jerseys this season.

For his part, Taylor said he’s not focused on the contract situation.

“The business side handles itself, whether it gets done or not,” he said, via WGR 550, on Tuesday. “Like I said it handles itself. I am just here to work and get better as a player.”

The Bills have balked at paying Taylor after just 14 starts. Instead of using Wednesday to grab more negotiating leverage, Whaley stamped Taylor as the starter in 2016.

Enjoying a career year as the most effective after-catch threat in the game, Harvin was tied for the NFL lead in receptions, first in YAC, second in kickoff return average and second in receiving yards when an ankle injury prematurely ended his 2012 season in early November.

Although Harvin was in line for a lucrative new contract the next offseason, the Vikings deemed him too risky following heated exchanges with two different head coaches in a three-year span. Five months after joining the MVP conversation despite playing in Adrian Peterson’s shadow, Harvin was shipped to the Seahawks for first-, third- and seventh-round draft picks.

At the time, NFL Films senior producer Greg Cosell hailed the Harvin acquisition as “a movable chess piece that advances the continuing evolution of NFL offense” in Seattle.

One of the NFL’s model franchises thought so highly of Harvin that they committed to a six-year, $67 million contract, making him one of the league’s highest-paid players.

After playing just 20 snaps in his Seattle debut season, Harvin waltzed into Super Bowl XLVIII and nearly walked away with Malcolm Smith’s MVP award after generating 137 electric yards on his first four touches.

Seven months later the Seahawks shocked the football world, trading Harvin on the cheap following multiple altercations with teammates.

Harvin was impressive enough in an eight-game audition with the Jets that the organization seriously contemplated exercising his $10.5 million option for 2015.

Settling for a one-year, $6 million deal in Buffalo, Harvin was outplaying the more ballyhooed Sammy Watkins when nagging hip pain brought another season to a halt.

If this is the end of the line, Harvin will be remembered as one of the great “what might have beens” of his authentic football jerseys.

He never developed as as an intricate NFL route runner, missed extensive time to injuries and wore out his welcome with two different franchises. On the flip side, he was a unique playmaker capable of breaking a game wide open every time he touched the ball.

As former teammate Sidney Rice once put it, “the league has never seen a player like Percy Harvin.”
